With the snip of a ribbon, the Coquille Economic Development Corporation (CEDCO) today officially opened its 102-space Mill Casino • Hotel RV Park, located on the scenic Coos Bay waterfront.
Coquille Indian Tribe officials and community leaders launched the first business enterprise on CEDCO's 50.5-acre waterfront development
property. Plans for the rest of the site include a Main Street-style area of shops, restaurants and entertainment facilities with The Home Depot occupying the north end of the property. The Tribe purchased the former lumber mill and shipyard site in March of 2004.
In remarks at the ceremony, CEDCO CEO Brady Scott noted that the company originally wanted to purchase five acres to expand The Mill's parking lot, but was offered the entire property instead.
"We started out expanding a parking lot," he said, "and we ended up becoming the developers of a beautiful waterfront property, which is one of the most promising retail and entertainment developments on the Oregon Coast. By cutting the ribbon for the RV Park, we are taking the first big step toward reaching that promise."
The park features 100 standard spaces, 68 pull-through and 32 back-in spaces, as well as two super spaces designed to accommodate maximum-sized vehicles. All come with full hook-ups along with cable TV and a wireless Internet service provided by Tribally-owned ORCA Communications, another CEDCO business.
A registration and facilities building offers a laundry, restrooms and showers, which will be available for use by long-haul truck drivers as well. The laundry also will be available to guests staying at The Mill Hotel.
Because it is located on a critical estuary, environmental protections were built into the park's design. A grass-covered swale surrounds the RV sites to capture any
run-off and filter it through a storm water system. Landscaping will feature vegetation that is natural to the bay area.
CEDCO, the business arm of the Coquille Indian Tribe, is committed to taking a proactive, positive role in the well-being of Oregon's South Coast. Among the largest employers in Coos County, Oregon, CEDCO manages The Mill Casino • Hotel along with business ventures in assisted living, organic cranberry farming and telecommunications.
